Rookie Ocheign "Jimmy" Carlos Takes It All At State Of Emergency!

"Jimmy" Carlos from Linstead, St. Catherine, outclassed Orville
Henry of Upper Level Sports Bar, Mandeville, 3-1 to win the
State Of Emergency 8 Ball Tournament at Mystix Pool Bar on
Sunday July 4th. En route to the finals Jimmy had convincing
victories against some of the islands top rated players; Damian
Simms 3-1 in the first round, Ocheign then disposed of Gary
Manning 3-0 in the second round. He had the closest victories
against Feurnando Anderson 3-3 under the handicapped format and
also Roy Letts 3-3 in the quarter finals. The semi-finals saw
Carlos beating recent B Class champion Rohan McDonald 3-1 who,
due to that victory stepped up to A class, before going into the
finals against Orville Henry.
Orville faced and conquered his share of difficult challenges,
eliminating the island's #1 ranked player Ewart Hall sending
him to battle with McDonald for third place.
Tournament director Leslie "Toothpick" Puranda saw it
fit to promote the young talent to the A class company because
of Carlo's performance in beating the caliber players he
encountered here and in other past tournaments. This was announced to the spectators prior to the
presentation by Everett Austin, the organizer of this
tournament. 1st Place received a cash prize of $40,000 , 2nd
$20,000 , 3rd $8,000 and 4th $4,000.
Meanwhile that competition was held, a mini ladies tournament
took place on the final day of the tournament which received a
total of 9 entries. This was won by
Francine Cardoza who beat JBA president Nicky Lawrence 3-1 in
the finals. Both players received cash incentives & trophies.
